Treebeards' Meatloaf Scores a Perfect "10"
Recently, My Table, Houston's Dining Magazine awarded Treebeards' meatloaf a score of 10! Read the article below...
Treebeards
1117 Texas Ave., 713-229-8248, and other locations.
Mighty loaf. Everything's swell at this clean Southern shrine, and the meatloaf is no exception. This densely textured loaf is intensely spiced and moist with a tangy tomato sauce. The price shouts value, as it includes two sides: Fork into the mustard greens or squash casserole. Grab a slab of jalapeño cornbread or a piece of peach cobbler. Or both. You deserve it.
Price: $8.95/with 2 sides
Score: 10

Treebeards' Peach Cobbler
350º
It is interesting to watch this bake because the peaches are spread over the batter and the peaches and batter trade places during the baking process.

| 8 | cups peeled and sliced peaches (about 10 peaches) |
| ½ | cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar |
| ¾ | teaspoon cinnamon |
| 1½ | cups all-purpose flour |
|
| 2 | cups sugar |
| 4½ | teaspoons baking powder |
| ¼ | teaspoon salt |
| ¾ | cup butter, melted |
| 1 | cup plus 2 tablespoons milk |
|

Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray. Set aside.
Toss sliced peaches with 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix flour, 2 cups sugar, baking powder and salt. Add melted butter and milk, mixing until smooth. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Layer peach slices over batter.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour or until brown and bubbly.
Serves 12.
Another version
Substitute 2 cups of blackberries or blueberries for 2 cups of sliced peaches. Omit cinnamon.
